When I began my journey to become a Entrepreneur & Real Estate professional — I honestly entered the space just like most Agents. Unsure, a bit confused and lacking confidence in my business direction and field. Looking back I have to give myself credit — You’re learning an all new environment, language, culture and social skill set. You will hear many seasoned agents joke about the fact that — real estate school doesn’t prepare you how to run a successful real estate business. Real estate school will reach you the mandatory compliance materials you need to know by law — but it doesn’t teach you how to build your business or who your clientele will be or how to attract them.

My first year in real estate I spent the first 6 months being a sponge. Learning, taking in information and acquiring as much knowledge as I could. I watched seasoned agents and I took as many classes as I could. The truth is — with all of that — there are still just somethings you have to experience hands on to know what will be important to your business model and clientele.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to primarily serve first time homebuyers, couples , families and single mothers . The deeper connection to my empowerment platform was so that I could make a generational impact on the lives of children and the homes they’re raised in. Ownership gives children, families and people overall a level of certainty, stability and wealth that renting — just doesn’t provide.

A few questions I asked myself were:

Where do you meet those clients? Who do you refer them to? How do I feel about myself?

Here are 3 tips I wish I knew year one as a new real estate professional.

  1. Networking is key! Who you know in this business matters. You will be taught that a nice size of your business will come from your sphere of influence. Over the years — I have gone to several networking events and met several amazing professionals & individuals. I am a talker, a hugger and I thrive on making true, genuine and authentic connections with anyone. I feel like everyone has something of value to offer, whether it’s wisdom, conversation or connections — I am just an overall people person who values others. I can talk to anyone, regardless of social status or hierarchy. Everyone has value & purpose. Don’t count anyone out.
  2. Business partners are an extension of your business model. Who I do business with matters tremendously. I value my clients, my community & I respect the people I work with. Knowing that my business model involves educating clients, supporting clients and being invested in more than just a “Sale” — with this specific vision for my business model I know that anyone who partners with me must align and match my same business authenticity, values, morals and integrity. Everyone is treated with the same care, consideration and respect. It’s win-win or no deal!
  3. Take care of yourself. You’ll hear me mention my “oxygen “ mask a lot in 2023 because saving myself first in this season is apart of my business plan. I am instituting mandatory self care routines and sessions — in order to stay at the top of my game. In the past I have often given so much of myself until I have nothing left. No more pouring from an empty cup. In 2023 we are over filling our cups and giving out only what’s spilling out.
